It just needs to be able to make plays at the right time which they can do.

Two seasons ago the Chiefs defense was ranked #25 and they won the SB.

We can't rely on this defense. The offense need to be a juggernaut.

It can happen. As a matter of fact this Rams team reminds me of that Chiefs team.

Even tho I agree with your overall premise, they are good tho. You can't take last year's team and expect them to be exactly the same. They will give up yards and points. Stay the course, they'll be fine.

They're getting goal line and 4th down stops and sacks and turnovers.

They need to clean some things up. It's just too early to dismiss them. Defending no 1 defense in the league has earned a little of the benefit of the doubt.

Not true. Chiefs' defense got hot at the right time and in that playoffs was a good unit. You don't get through the playoff schedule with a defense that lets every fucking team play keepaway from your explosive offense.

Had the defense forced a couple more three 'n outs this offense likely puts up another 7 to 10 points. That's how good they are. Our offense is going to get better and better but how many touches they get is very much determined by whether this defense can quit bleeding time and opportunity.

We need at least one guy that can tackle reliably!

Tackling is definitely a talent. People are going to use the term "missed tackles" throughout the year with this defense. Missed tackles is another way of saying "can't tackle".

Tackling can still improve. They lost Young and survived. Robinson is still getting to full strength.. he did some decent things today. Gaines wasn’t bad. Not much from the edges.
With Lawler hurt, they should call Olivier Vernon and/or Trent Murphy.

Last year's defense started every game slow, then went on lockdown from the 2nd quarter on. Hope this year's develops the same.

Has 2018 been that long ago that everybody as amnesia already?

What happened that Súper bowl?
3 points? The point is we have to correct things now on D and Raheem needs to get his shit together and mix in some 5-1 fronts with a 2 high shell.

We can’t do this shit against against the top teams in the NFC.

Mind you, this 5-1 2 high shell Defense limited the Super Bowl champs in a win last year. They are next week, and we can compare.

Citing last year's defense is something I keep seeing. But it would mean a lot more to me if we had not changed a coordinator and if the guy who we brought in didn't have a history of exactly what we're seeing.

That's what I worry. Happy we signed Raheem due to he's a great leader and coach, and thought maybe he never had the collective talent to put up great numbers. Now he has talent and still, it seems we're getting gashed.

Didnt the D start a little slow last season and get better as the season wore on? I think the D will be fine especially if the O can get a lead and force teams to abandon the run.

Thinking our D gets better as the year goes, but yea far too many coverage breakdowns .
Tackling was a little better today but, still room for improvement.
Opposing QB 's have been catching some breaks from our pass rush.
I think a lot of this is the not playing in the preseason. though I am very much in favor of the strategy.
I think it will take some time to get clicking. I'm pretty sure our D got of to a slow start last year as well.

I disagree. They need to be good, at least at some point. Maybe that happens late in the year like what happened with the Chiefs. But they do need to be good, not great but good.

It did. I think @Merlin is 100% on point though where he says the philosophy/concepts of a bend but don't break defense that stays on the field all day is very uncomplimentary to our new quick strike, chunk play offense.

The D hasn't been bad, it's been very effective at not breaking and forcing teams to stretch themselves as the game goes on, but only one or two added possessions to these first couple games and the Rams are putting up 50 burgers.

I agree, ... and that 7 point Special Teams giveaway on the Scott 'fumble' skewed the scoring somewhat. Defense looked quite good during most of those goal line plays, and we shouldn't forget that Refs just look in the opposite direction when it comes to those non-holding calls when guys are draped all over Donald.

Great point. The time of possession the defense gives up really hurts the offense.

Exactly. Rams score in 4 minutes while the defense stays on the field for 8 minutes. Better teams will wear down the Rams. TOP is important. The Rams don't have to win it but, have to stay reasonably close to even.

The defense is also still adjusting to a new scheme. A lot of guys might still be doing a lot of thinking instead of reacting
