Saints QB Drew Brees announces retirement

The game's most prolific passer of all-time is calling it a career.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, whose 80,358 yards passing stand as the most in the history of the NFL, is retiring after 20 seasons.

Following a lengthy wait after the end of the Saints' season, Brees announced his retirement Sunday via social media.

    Saints signed QB Taysom Hill to a four-year, $140 million contract extension.
    Every year of the deal is voidable so it's unlikely that Hill ever sees a large amount of this money. In an act of cap sorcery, the Saints used this extension to spread out Hill's cap hit for 2021 over the next four years. This extension does have real aspects to it including a $9.7 million signing bonus, a $1.4 million guaranteed roster bonus, and a $1 million guaranteed base salary. It also has some extra money tied to incentives for Hill. With Drew Brees officially retiring, Hill is in play to be the team's quarterback of the future. This deal is mostly for cap maneuvering purposes but the incentives do point toward New Orleans at least wanting to give Hill a shot at the starting gig. Most importantly, it clears $7.4M in cap space for the Saints, who need to shed some contracts to get under the 2021 salary cap.

Good. I'll like Brees a helluva lot more as an ex-Saint. Saints fans, get your paper sack & black marker for tears ready.....It's the bad old days again in the Big Easy!
