Nothing new here. The Rams have used their sturdier build WRs like TEs for years now, with Kupp, and now Puka.
Even the flimsier build WRs were often asked to block and dig out LBers, if they could. See: Robert Woods.
IMO it is a big reason why the TE position group has gone ignored for so long, that is, until the recent drafting of Ferguson and the (massively failed) signing of Parkinson. Between Higbee and our WR cadre, TE was probably was never high enough up the priority list, until father time started catching up with Higs and Coop and the injuries became more frequent and lengthy.
I am excited to see how McVay continues to develop as it seems he is evolving how he uses the TE position now, often playing 3 on the field at a time the past two weeks!
We did draft Everett at TE, but in the same way WRs often function as TEs, some TEs effectively get used as WRs often, Everett seemed to fit into that description, maybe my memory is hazy, but that is how I recall his usage.
