It's so hard to listen to Chris Simms. Honestly it feels like he has so much competitive jealousy for Goff thinking he could of done what Jared's doing now. Also, not admitting he's been wrong after all these years and choosing this to be the hill he dies on guy is ridiculous.

Yes, he gives grudging props to Goff but gives high praise to McVay in the first 8.5 minutes. Later he briefly mentions the defense - good not great.
I was happy to hear somebody actually talk about the Rams and not just dump on the Eagles for the whole video.

I watched and listen to Simms. He made a similar point that I made about McVay making it easier for Goff earlier in the game. I did say Goff was razor-sharp on the short throws and some longer throws. That allowed the pass catchers to run clean for good YAC. Simms didn't mention that or how fluid Goff looked early on.

I'm not sure about what he was saying about Goff waiting for one more hitch longer to hit the crossers. We all know Goff has always hung in the pocket sometimes too long, He did say Goff's throws were coming out cleaner referring to comment and good mechanics. All in all, I think he was for the most part on point critiquing Goff's performance.

I think he missed on Wentz blaming the play calling. There was bad play-calling but, also bad mechanics from Wentz. From Jaws, Dan O. to Baldinger locally they all are saying Wentz's mechanics are off. He is not aiming his feet to the target. The off-target short-throw/screen to Jackson was mentioned as being wide open for big yards had it been on target.

Simms is a jealous ten year old moonlighting as an analyst. Goff has improved a lot in the past year IMO. Just watching his handoffs for example the dude is so fucking smooth with his body control that it's hard to read his motion. I think his fakes are among the league's best right now. He's on top of his game and the opposing LBs don't have any idea where the ball is.

Here's an example. Remember that TD run by Woody in the first quarter? Check out the smoothness...

Fake to Kupp and the LBs are frozen

Great fake to Brown and they're still frozen. The ILB closest to the LOS will be sucked in on it.

And now the coup de grace with the flip of the ball to Woody. Now people won't be impressed by this but look at his body language. Look where Goff's hands are. And note the position of the LBs with the nearest one at the left hash.

Look at the distance Woody travelled before the LB committed. That is some nasty fuckin misdirection man and yeah McVay drew it up but Goff executed that shit with a straight back and a wrist flip.

Easy TD.

i couldn't agree more.

the reason the defense is fooled often comes down to the fact goff sells the fake so well. they can't tell that he's faking the hand off.

that's exactly what i thought when they showed the replay of that td. man goff was so cool and smooth with his flip to woods.

There is not a QB in the league that can throw the short and medium passes at Goff's Level of perfection. His timing and accuracy makes it look easy, but actually if you watch other QB's such as Wilson or Mahomes you see some slightly off target throws, but they get alot of hype because they get on the move and make these great down the field throws.

What Jared does is run a short and medium game to perfection. His anticipation, timing and placement are truly legendary.

Mcvay has customized the offense perfectly around Jared's strengths.

Most of the top QB's today make their living off the longball or off schedule plays. That is not Goff's game.

This offense has been run to perfection without Gurley, Kupp and Woods for long stretches, the core is Mcvay and Goff.

Now with a healthy and serviceable offensive line we see Goff right back where has was 2018 when he lead the top offense over a two year period and had the Rams with a middle road defense in the Super Bowl.

i've always said that because goff makes all these throws look easy then they must be easy right? at least to the media dolts, yes. but in reality, no.

this is the qb the media is slobbering themselves over since last season.

if it makes you click on the link go to 1:26 and see this masterful qb at work.

Bingo!

Thought the exact same thing. He envisions that he could have been what Goff is had he had a coach like McVay. Both skinny blonde dudes, except one has much more natural talent and a tougher mindset.

I don't get this whole "the coach is a genius so it's not that big of a deal to be on time with excellent ball placement"

Ya know what other tandem out there that described?

Belichick and Brady.

I'll be perfectly fine if our tandem works that well.

With all due respect I believe you are underestimating Goff’s ability to throw deep. Goff has 11 completions of +20 yards. Some were due to yac, but he has thrown a bunch of beautiful longer passes too.

The shorter passes are due to protecting the o-line, not Goff’s arm. Also because we have great technical receivers but they are not speed threats deep. But scheming them open deep will be among McVay’s variations on what is already a really effective passing game.

Having A kid who just went through peewee league and is now starting both ways in Jr High, I have first hand experience with the Chris Simms syndrome. Every coaches kid or kid whose dad was a former high school star gets everything handed to them and they get pissed every time my son displays in practice that he's better than they are.

Haven't watched Simms yet. Was curious if anyone else seemed to notice that a good percentage of the time the first couple weeks Jared keeps them in the huddle until the 10-15 second mark on the play clock. I don't remember that from years past. In fact it seems they would break early to make adjustments on the line. Now it seems Jared is just standing in the huddle waiting. New tactic?

Supposedly the defense would come to the line wait til the 10 second mark so McVay couldn’t tell Goff what the defense was then shift to the actual scheme they were going to play. So now the Rams hang out in the huddle looking at the defense come to the line and snap the ball quickly. Good coaching, everyone has to be in place and set quickly for it to work and it’s harder for defenses to play games pre snap.
