Glad to see he is doing better. He was one the biggest FA signings in Rams history. A throwback to the days when we were all super excited about the Rams winning Free Agency by signing Long, Courtland Finnegan, and Jared Cook. Makes you appreciate today seeing a winning rams team hang back in Free Agency.

He was an absolute disappointment, but I hope he gets better and feels better....No hate Jake, be well.

Guys body just fell apart after a couple of years in the NFL. Great talent that just didn't have the genetics to keep it up.

It happens to a lot of them. Making that jump to the next level isn't easy. For some it is about their mind not keeping up, but for most who don't stick long term it is their bodies that can't hold up.

I happened to bump into a friend of the Long family when I congratulated her on her exquisite taste in NFL teams when I saw her in her St. Louis Rams shirt.

It was when Long was out with his injury about 4 years ago.

She was aware that he was seriously considering retiring and that the Longs were already working on their home in Charlottesville in preparation of retiring.

I'm glad he worked through it, but evidently was a lot of work.

I'm glad the man could get his rings.

I think we got Jake's last good year and as I recall he graded out very high. Great team guy. He was not a disappointment to me at all, it just sucked that he got hurt
We were dependent on fragile guy to protect another fragile guy (Bradford) is all, which very disappointing to fans. He along with Scott Wells were Fisher specials back then...

I always liked Jake Long as a player. I just can’t watch this video. Looks real sad.

Why he came back with Vikings though ? Plus to protect Bradford made me think about some
Memories. Only wish him good health.

Had high hopes for Jake Long
Looks like his lack of production wasn't due to a lack of balls
5000x tougher than me
God Bless the guy and hope he has many great years to chill and enjoy the 100 years of wealth he's laid out for his grandkids

Jake Long was doing just fine until his ACL tear, which was an injury he didn't have before.

Scott Wells was a pro-bowl center that also got hurt. Didn't work out. Shit happens, you know.

Wish nothing but the best for Jake. It's a shame that it didn't work out, but I hope he can recover enough to live his life the way he wants to live it.

Wells required surgery before he ever played a snap for us, and he seemed fragile the whole time he wore horns...This still pizzes me off. My faulty memory says that Long was in the same boat (not sure about him on this)

Scott Wells broke his foot during one of his first practices. Then he had the knee scopes.

Jake Long's problem was his triceps surgery. Nothing to do with his ACL.

Not really.
Well's knee was injured and operated on in Mid May of 2012, a couple days into the spring practice season. Then he mysteriously disappeared with Fisher calling it due to personal reasons, which really was about Well's and his wife adopting kids in Africa. This might be the frustration that I remember because EARLY in his time with the Rams, he sported a bandaged knee while others practiced, and then he was gone.

THEN he broke his foot in the first game of the season vs the Lions:
"The injury will cost him at least six games because of the new injured reserve rules. The new rule states that Wells can return to practice as early as Week 6, yet his first game can't come until Week 8. A fractured metatarsal requires surgery, and the recovery timetable varies based on which metatarsal he broke."

Our prized new FA Center in 2012 played 7 games for us.

As for Jake Long, are you kidding me?

He was knocked out in the 2nd to last game of the 2013 season :

"Fisher said Long has a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee, an injury that will keep him out of the season finale against Seattle and require surgery. "

Then he tore his ACL in 2014 in Week 8, and he never played for the Rams again. He was a disaster.

*edit: I do remember problems with his triceps, but this just adds to the idea that he was a disaster signing, imo.

Good point.
I guess I'm so over both of them I lumped them in the same category which I should not have done.
Funny.
