He won more snaps then performed when he got them. So yeah it's exciting to see it. Been a loooooong time coming for us.

Not sure what he will add in the playoffs. But this unit overall is the best TE room we've had that I can recall.

There's a scenario (I don't know that it's super likely but there's a chance) that he will continue to improve to such a point where he becomes the 3rd receiver (boundary/slot/move TE) by playoffs relegating Whittington, Mumpfield, and Atwell to a handful of snaps a game.

I am not sure how you don't see it already, Rams have been playing in 13 formation a lot the last two games.
TE's have been targeted more in the last two games.

Yeah, McVay probably envisions Ferguson as a big WR. A bigger Puka, who can pick up the blocking duties even better than what the WRs can do. And I am guessing a vet like Adams isn't a big fan of blocking in traffic. So Ferguson, or any extra TE, takes some of that responsibility off of him.

In the last game alone Whittington had 35 snaps, Mumpfield 30 with Fergy trailing at 24.

13 Personnel was used on 45.7 percent of snaps.

Think I'm seeing it pretty accurately, no?

I think there could be a scenario where Fergy grabs closer to 40 snaps a game by playoffs but I think that's 50/50 on happening and possible but highly unlikely that he nears 50 and pushes Mumpfield and Whitt to very few. As it stands right now, he hasn't taken their snaps away and remains behind them (and that's without Atwell's return).

Yeah I think the Rams are doing this right. They are requiring the rook to push for a job. And he is responding to this approach and is in fact pushing for that job.

So what is probably coming in the games ahead is Ferg getting the higher snap count like you allude to. Reason being he's gotten more snaps and responded well to them, thus it makes sense to expedite things and then you know before the trade deadline and the playoff stretch if the kid's gonna help you.

But all that aside this kid's going to be a good TE for us for the long term. Only thing is the staff has to be ready to elevate him when it's time. And that time is very soon. I know they love Higs, but he's looking at being relegated to a lesser role when 18 is ready.

This is probably why we're seeing 13 personnel too btw. Buys the staff time to evaluate things before telling Higs the time has come.

Ferguson's usage will also depend on the match ups the Rams face. He and 13 personnel will be more effective against some teams but not necessarily others. Our Rams have an MVP type QC and a lot of weapons that get limited chances because our Rams also have two elite WR's that deserve their touches because good things happen when they get the ball.

12 and 13 personnel is the future. Especially when Tutu is gone next year if not now, I think McVay wants to replace the primary 3rd WR role with Ferg. We’ll still use 11 packages but the percentage of those plays will decrease significantly.

But.....Higs doesn't have to be done (or Allen). 12P creates a lot of different opportunities for both WR, both TE and the run game. Get that humming and we're gonna be an even bigger handful for defenses.

I'm so tempted to grab Ferguson in fantasy. I had Tucker Kraft... I now have Fannin from Cleveland which was best option in the scrap heap who probably won't be terrible but not lighting anyone up. Just have a feeling Ferguson is going to get better and better as year goes on.

Fergy is a good stash for a team that can hold onto him for a playoff run in fantasy.

TE's are the worst in fantasy though, such high variability week to week except for like the top 3.

Tell me about it, losing Kraft is a huge hit to my team.

Yeah I think the size over the middle is really important this year with Kupp being moved. Adams improved us outside the hash, he was a huge pickup, but you also gotta move the chains and he doesn't like going over the middle. So keeping him from being hurt is important. And Nacua is already dinged up as our best target in that usage.

The 13 sets have worked surprisingly well due to Allen and Ferg stepping up big time. I wasn't sure that was going to happen. But it's a really good sign for us. Also both those guys have blocked well on top of that which makes run balance easier for McVay, who tends to forget about it.

Also I think this demonstrates that when McVay has TE quality he is willing to throw the sets out there to feature them. So much of his fixation on 11 has been due to its dominance in the depth chart. Which is now changing.

Ferg actually gave me Kupp vibs on that catch where he spun and then accelerated for a big gain. Hoping that the whiners have no answer for Ferg and/or our 13 formation this weekend. It's not an often used formation and we are using it to great success this year.

Fred Warner being out is a big plus
