STAR LINEBACKER WANTS TO SIGN WITH FALCONS?

If the Atlanta Falcons want to avoid another disastrous season and return to playoff contention, they must upgrade their defense this offseason. Fortunately, one of the top free-agent pass rushers available wants to sign with the Falcons this offseason.

According to Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, outside linebacker Dante Fowler wants to head to Atlanta to join Dan Quinn’s defense for the 2020 season. While the 25-year-old is expected to land a sizable contract, he would reportedly sign with the Falcons if their offer is competitive.

Coming off a disappointing season in 2018, Fowler signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams to rebuild his value. The former No. 3 overall pick delivered the best season of his career, racking up 16 quarterback hits, 11.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Fowler could be the perfect replacement for Vic Beasley, who the Falcons have already announced the will move on from this offseason. While Fowler might eat up Atlanta’s cap space, the chance to add him to this defense is perfect for a team looking to rebound in the 2020 season.

McSnead will let him walk !!

There whole thing is making sure players are happy. I’m sure he knows that, that is why his camp is letting this news leak.

I for one do not see him as irreplaceable. He just seems like he does not fit into the we not me way of thinking. Let's give Obo a chance and see what he can do, I think that some have forgot that he is on the roster.

I've never seen or heard a thing to indicate what you are accusing him of..........and he has played extremely well.

I love Fowler and believe he's a game changer on defense and if he does sign elsewhere, would like him out of the NFC. He would instantly improve Atlanta's defense...I understand it's about the cap, but he is the type of player I would commit to and unfortunately the Rams apparently cannot afford him.

Fowler benefits from defenses having to deal w/ Donald and gets one on one matchups. If he moves to another team, their opponents will be primarily key on him and his production will go down. And I agree. Let Obo have a shot. I think you will get comparable production.

He did attend college in Florida, which is down the street a little from Atlanta, so he may have Family/friends close by. I appreciate what he did for us while he was here. Good luck Dante.

He's earned the big payday. But I would not sign him, don't see him as the type of guy who will keep busting his @$$ when he's comfortable.

Trading him for a round 3 pick would be fine by me, then add another young edge from this draft.

While we're talkin about guys we probably can't afford... If they're hell bent on boosting the defensive front in FA the guy to get is Armstead. That dude is criminally underrated IMO. Add him to 5T and the Rams would have a front that would stuff the run and get busy in the pass, with young edge types being rotated in.

Well lets at least franchise and trade the guy. Can't let him walk for nothing!
Exactly my thoughts. Might as well turn him into something. Hopefully a 2nd rounder? That would be invaluable this draft. Otherwise we get a third as a cómp.

this is the year to load up on 2-3 rounders.

The article doesn't give any reasons why he wants to sign with the Falcons. They aren't going to resign Beasley so it makes sense Fowler could replace him. He also did have a very good game against the Falcons this year. Still, no quotes or other facts being presented.

Trade sounds good. I think he will cost too much for the Rams and the Rams have Obo, Ebu and Polite to compete at OLBer. He is a nice fit for the Rams but, if he get $16-$18 Million a year I believe the Rams try to trade him after franchising him. A little risky.

I just get the feeling that his sack total was helped by the Rams' more aggressive defense after getting Ramsey.

He got 2 sacks last year before Ramsey, 9.5 sacks after getting Ramsey.

So a guy has a career year, in his walk year, playing with a HOF DT and a real, real good CB. On the one hand, I don't think the 11.5 sacks would be easily replaceable by any one player currently on the roster, but OTOH I wouldn't feel comfortable giving this guy huge money.

Best wishes in his new location except when we need him to suck.

As I said I wouldn't sign Fowler. But that said sacks are a bad stat to measure how good an edge is in this defense. Even for a blindside.

His pressures were very consistent week to week to my eye, with him constantly pressuring the pocket even if he didn't get there. And vs the run he was fantastic, only criticism I have is he was caught inside a bit too much thus losing the edge but some of that might have been called or schemed with expectation of interior runs.

You see the same thing and probably even more of it on the tape of "better" edge types like Bosa for example. And for him it's probably scheme to an extent too, as he's very good at pinching in and helping the interior run defense.

From the tape perspective alone Fowler was extremely good this season. And those sack numbers went up as the Rams probably knew they would once they rebuilt the secondary (which was remarkable btw to do that like they did in-season).
