Wow, so he loses $11 million from his 5th year option the Falcons exercised already to bet on a few games... that's one expensive fuck up. Wonder if the Falcons get screwed and still have to eat that cap hit? Does his 5th year option get bumped a year? Does he come out of his suspension a free agent? Weird circumstance.

It was while he was out right?

I guess I'm going to be in the minority here but that doesn't bother me.

Does that mean that NFL players who aren't playing can never bet on the Super Bowl?? Seems a bit odd to me.

But then I'm guessing they tell them that up front.

We were just discussing this at my local watering hole. Even if you’re not playing in the game that was wagered on, could there be possible collusion scenarios?

Looks like an honest fuck up. He's getting punished hard, but owns up to what he did. Sucks for him, but no denying or trying to get out of it. I can respect that.

Never…never everah bring negative attention to the league unless you’re a top 5 talent (IMO)
What a dope!

Idk I don’t think the crime fits the punishment at all. Let’s see how hard they come down on the owners

I suppose that's possible.

But IMO you invite this kind of thing by having an archaic policy.

Would make more sense to allow them to bet on any game they don't play in and create an easy way for them to do so, and one the NFL can easily audit. That way they can have some measure of control.

All an NFL player has to do now is hand a friend some cash and have them place the bet, and there is nothing the league can do to stop it.

How could he NOT know?

This falls under the stupidity clause (unwritten). Let's say you were paid $11 million to play a kids game`` for three years, as long as you didn't do "x, y, & z" for three years. It could even be a legal thing normally, but that was the rule or you lose the money.
1. If you chose to take the deal, or if it was a gray area where you MIGHT lose the money, isn't that worth finding out to not risk it?
2 Three years is the average NFL career length. I could stop most anything for three years, even if I loved that thing, for that short amount of time.
3. If you took the deal, but then chose to push the limits of the boundry, how can you bitch about getting burned?

Oh there are owners gambling on games?

The problem with this narrative of the crime not fitting the punishment is that the NFL and the NFLPA agreed to a CBA that lays out the punishments. Per the CBA this is the punishment that the union agreed to. If the players and the union want to change this then they have something to try to bargain for the next go round.

Hard for me to get why millionaires gamble.
