Anyone else on here tired of the way these officials are influencing the outcome of games.

College and the NFL. Take the Alabama vs Tennessee game for example you will never convince me that the fix wasn't in. The Rams game Sunday with those BS calls that were so obviously done to influence the outcome of that game. Take the ball placement on the 4th and one which everyone other than those crooked officials knew was enough for a first down. It is beginning to look more and more like these guys are trying to affect the outcomes of certain games for reasons unknown to me. Who knows if they are truly above-board finding ways to fix games for a payday. I for one don't trust them anymore, it is just too obvious there is no way they can simply be this bad.

Poor officiating always opens itself up to cynicism and questions of integrity. I have been frustrated with what the ref's see and what they don't see, and the influence it has on the NFL contest for many seasons. I think the game is way too fast for the referee's on field to see everything, so I don't think for the most part it's deliberate, but there needs to be more input from New York. Clear and obvious poor decisions like the one against Witherspoon, or a non-call like the Robey-Coleman PI in the NFC Championship game, or a poor ball placement needs to be corrected by NY via the video replay that everyone, bar the actual adjudicator's on the field, get to see. It's almost getting to the point that the chief referee who has final say needs to be in the booth.

If officials were on the take, wouldn’t someone get caught by now?

You would think so, but not if it is sanctioned by their employers. Let me preface this by saying that I don't believe this is the case, however the competition is designed so that the weaker sides get assistance and the stronger teams get penalised so we get close results via the salary cap & the draft rules. Close results and close team positions on the tables retains interest = more viewers = more advertising revenue... so it's not a huge step for the NFL to take to advise referees to favour the weaker side during an actual game to ensure a close result.

I’m not one to complain about refs, but this years has been utter dogshit, across the league. There have been like 15 roughing the passer calls that are straight outrageous. They need to make that play challengable.

I think of all the arguments I’ve heard that make sense…

If the call is wrong, regardless of time outs, rules, or situation, get the call right via replay/NY officials.

Stubbornly standing behind a bad call over rules, doesn’t make sense in the modern era of what we all see on TV.

Get the calls right.

Make the rules aligned to that goal.

I’m currently watching game 7 of the NLCS, where every imaginable stat is displayed for all to see.

I wish the NFL TV feeds would superimpose the accuracy % of all NFL refs under them. Would we see hockey goalie type save % of .923 or baseball hitters % of .223?

That would be fun.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Players and coaches have to answer questions after a game. Make it mandatory that refs have to answer questions. Make them more accountable. If they have to answer what they saw when they called or didn't call a penalty, I guarantee you they would try a lot harder to do better. Right now there is little accountability.

And it isn’t always the crew on the field getting it wrong. Sometimes the replay or NY crews have their own head scratchers.

I do believe the lines have been blurred with intent even more since they are so obviously in bed with gambling. Humans suck and you can’t convince me there aren’t unscrupulous officials getting paid to influence games.

It's a good idea, also based on what I had posted, but thinking more about it the NFL would never allow negative ref stats released which would harm their precious product. If stats got out that the refs are as bad as they've been, it would cause an avalanche of low ratings. So instead they make excuses, ignore it or sweep it under the rug.

They can make excuses and try to sweep it under the rug, but it is obvious to any of us knowledgeable fans that they simply cannot perform the job good enough to be considered competent or trustworthy!

Refs sign non-disclosure agreements. One would stand to lose a lot if they tried to out the NFL. Plus they’d have to consider before if they’d likely be able to prove any of it. How does it usually go when someone tries to fight a big corporation?

The refs are not permitted to speak to the press. There is a reason for that. The league has one way to fix games, the refs. They don’t want them talking to anybody.

I think the league steers outcomes. If the team that they want to win is getting pounded then there is nothing they can do about it. But in a close game, ball placement, an imaginary pass interference call or holding call can tip the scales in the favor of the team that they want to win.

It is subtle enough that it cannot be proven. It’s a foolproof plan.
