Inspired by my wife watching her show, Nashville. The cheerleader girl from heroes was covering this. It didn't work though...She looks to me like she gives a damn about her bad reputation!

I actually saw JJ live in 82 and it was a great show!

I ran across her duet with Jeff Beck on "I put a spell on you" yesterday. It's good. It was apparently on american idol so you may have seen. I more or less live under a rock when it comes to pop and TV. My daughter is my guide.

Anyway, here is another tune by Joss and Jeff

I like your blues vibe lately PT. If you want a great channel on pandora try plugging in "Mississippi Delta Blues"! Dig down to the real blind melon chitlins of the world.

I'm a huge fan of that John Lee Hooker sound. This band I have posted once before but here is another selection. Its kind of a modern interpretation of delta hooker style blues. Very cool mix of modern effects and classic elements like harmonica and banjo, and a groovy cool blues singer.

I think fusion bands like these have a hard time because they dont fit into any normal spec... not exactly blues...wtf is it? Ha

I'm so addicted to them. It's brilliant. They capture that hypnotic hooker feel so well and take it to another level.

Pig in a Can - Coal Black Mare and Big Legged Woman (at 4:40).

Turn the volume up to the maximum level before pushing play. Roll down your windows if you are in a car so your fellow drivers can enjoy!

Pig in a Can

Tied to get along + John Henry (4:10)

...cool nugget at the end if you make it that far.

I'm a blues player at heart but I write and record Christian music. This is a problem. Every time I sit down to write a new tune, I end up playing blues licks that don't fit the vibe I'm trying to get across. A friend told me to try different tunings for my guitar and that would eliminate that problem. It works but I still love playing da blues.

I'm sure I've told the story here about the time John Lee Hooker flipped me off while driving to see Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer. That's the closest I ever got to meeting him in person. :)

LOL!!!!!!

Blues is all about a good man being down. It's really a root of rock... progressions that are the basis of so many anthems. Rock didn't just happen. Its an amalgam of things including gospel.

I don't know man. Art is hard. Maybe try to roll somehow. I feel you though. Hey..at least you dont play banjo!!! Try to play sad banjo!

You probably can't get the Leila out of your expression though so maybe try to work with who you are somehow? Use the blues. Maybe switch instruments if the guitar betrays you for certain effects? It is so cool that you are persuing your artistic aspirations. I'm happy to be your sounding board if it is at all helpfull.

I go through periods listening to different groups obsessively. For a long time it was Shonen Knife. Before and after that the Dresden Dolls and then Amanda Palmer's solo stuff. The Raveonettes. Lately it's been the Mountain Goats. This song rocks more than most of theirs, and really captures a misanthropic mood.
