It always bows my mind seeing names on the list that aren't rock and roll. I also feel like the bar for the r&r Hall of Fame is kind of low.

Wow. There are 6 on there I don't recognize at all. And I'm sorry but how exactly does Rage Against the Machine get on there? Not that I don't like the band but....

True story..........

I'm from the CLE area and I remember when the big push to get the Hall awarded to Cleveland started, and then the big push to build it.

I became a "founding member" as they called it before the building went up. $75 for that honor LOL. I have the first newsletter called Liner Notes and all of the subsequent issues. Each year I paid my dues and I got a t-shirt, a cool sticker and the newsletter plus I could visit as often as I wanted free and could take guests a certain amount of times per year for free also.

I supported the Hall for many year but I stopped because they began putting people in who had no business being there while bands that deserved it weren't getting in. And several bands that have never played a single note of rock music too. Just look at this years list! LLCoolJ? Good act, great entertainer. Not rock and roll.

You are right about the low bar, but it's been that way forever and now that the "legends" are all in who's left? There is very little rock and roll music to look back on in the last 10-15 years. Maybe longer.

Eventually they will probably change the name to Museum of Modern Music or something to reflect what it's very, very slowly morphing into.

It's a great way to spend several hours though. It's well laid out and has so much interesting stuff and such cool exhibits. Stuff you'd never think. Like the backdrop "wall" for Pink Floyd's The Wall Tour (the actual stage with notes written on it by the band), handwritten lyrics from artists, clothing, instruments, cars and all sorts of stuff packed into a cool looking building.

You should consider a weekend there to see that and the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day after another.

IMO, the ones who get in should either be massive rock groups - great songs and albums over years - or groups that have a huge influence on future bands. In terms of the latter criterion, I could support MC5, the Meters, and Link Wray. Maybe the Moodie Blues and Radiohead for the former. Perhaps RATM as a combo. Most of the rest, if they hadn't been around there wouldn't have been a huge gap in rock history (though I can be convinced of a few others).

For those who don't know, MC5 was influential in the development of punk and all that followed from it. The Meters did a lot to develop funk rock. Link Wray was very important in developing rock guitar stylings.

Yeah - you have to wonder who nominates for a lot of music related stuff. I remember the year Jethro Tull won a Grammy for best Heavy Metal. I love their music and have seen them live 3 times but..... whuuuuuuhhhht?

What a sad list that is. It's called the Rock and Roll hall of fame. This list only has one or two that fit that most basic criteria.

How can some of them be ahead of acts like Dio, Jethro Tull, Def Leppard, Sammy Fuckin Hagar, Ozzy Fuckin Osbourne, motorhead, Iron Maiden, slayer, The Cure, Scorpions, Thin Lizzy, Pat Benatar, Blue oyster cult, The Cult.........

I think the problem starts with the people who nominate don't know what Rock and Roll is in the first place. The Eurythmics are not Rock and Roll and their career accomplishments are weak as hell. One shitty here comes the Rain again song doesn't cut it.

They won that OVER Metallica just when Metallica was fully breaking mainstream and was probably the most popular band in the world.

Jethro Who?

If Judas Priest doesn't get in, this whole thing is a farce.

If I recall my history lessons correctly, they won that for the song "Locomotive Breath" which, in my opinion, is a pretty bad ass song. I defy any other band to try and put the flute into an awesome rock/maybe almost metal song.

Never mind. I looked it up. It was way after Locomotive Breath. Definitely a crap decision. But still, flute in a bad ass song deserves some kind of award. Maybe just not a Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album.

Nothing against Tull, but they were well past Locomotive Breath, Aqualung and Cross-Eyed Mary by that time and were on the downside of their career. I don't even know what they won for and I like Jethro Tull. Metallica had just released their fourth album, their first video for "One" and was breaking huge even with chicks and queers.

Also, Judas Priest FTW!
