Spectre

8/10

I don't think there has ever been a James Bond film I haven't liked. I'm a big fan--grew up with James Bond. So after reading some less than enthusiastic reviews about the latest James Bond film, "Spectre" I was a little concerned that I might be disappointed. That didn't happen. Big James Bond fans will not likely be disappointed with the latest installment at all. In fact, they'll feel a bit nostalgic. Without giving too much away let me say that this film more than any of the other Danial Craig Bonds tips its hat to the classic Bond films with all the silliness and cool stuff and fantasy that James Bond was all about. It's a more humorous Bond than the previous Danial Craig films and some will accuse it of being over-the-top as the classic Bonds were. You'll either be okay with that--or you won't.

I loved it.

The baddies this time are about global control through controlling surveillance and information. Are the 00 agents outdated? In a world where we can track everything and use mindless drones do we need men running around at all? As "M" says--yes 00 agents can kill--but they can also choose not to kill. In other words--should the human element really be removed?

Christoph Waltz was born to play a villain and he does his usual fantastic job. This villain ties to Bond's past in a way that makes him very chilling. big Dave Batista plays the big goon and literally has one line--one word to say the entire film--but it's a good one. The women are Lea Seydoux, and Monica Belluci. While Lea is the main Bond girl here, it's nice to see Monica who--even at her older age--is beautiful and sexy as ever.

Oh and the car--the Aston Martin. It's there as well--with some familiar stuff that Bond fans will appreciate.

So yes--if you're a big James Bond fan who has been watching the series for years--don't miss it. You'll really enjoy this one.

My last two:

The Martian: I give this the coveted Nigel Tufnel Rating, i.e. 11/10. Just a freakin' amazing film on so many levels. There are a few deviations from the book, but none that even remotely damages the story (and one which really wraps it up nicely at the end). Necessary for cinema too. It's a science fiction movie that is heavy on actual science, and yet it is presented in the most entertaining way possible. And for anyone who likes to see people solve seemingly insurmountable problems, who appreciates a can-do, never-say-die attitude, this movie will seriously resonate. I'll definitely read the book again, and I will have my hands on the BluRay the day it's released.

The Wolf of Wall St., 10/10: This wasn't intended to be a comedy, and it's not. But it is laugh out loud hilarious in some points, as the decadence and depravity of the primary characters reaches comedic proportions. It's almost unbelievable to think that this is based on a true story, yet there really was a guy named Jordan Belfort who lived like this. Yes, he's a piece of sh!t and should be thought of as such, but it's still hard not to laugh and be entertained by this movie.

Jordan does have a cameo in the film.
"He's the guy that introduces Leo at the end."

I'm thinking about watching Logan's Run. I'm still a young man, am I ready for this type of 70's magic?

I picked up Logan's Run on Blu-Ray about 6 months ago and watching again for the first time in many many years , still really enjoyed it , a lot of the special affects didn't hold up well , even when I was 10 years old , the thought the robot in the ice cave was a little silly , but over all , it's a great movie ,

I'm a big fan of martial arts movies. The Raid: Redemption, an Indonesian film, is one of the best. Totally action packed even brutal. 9/10.

I agree , The Raid is an excellent movie , a few years ago when it first came out , I heard about it because it came out right before the movie DREDD with Karl Urban which is also a great movie , a lot of people were compairing the two movie , simple plot , it all takes place in one apartment building , a few cops have to go from the ground floor to the top floor with everyone in between trying to kill them

So I also would recommend The Raid , along with DREDD if you have never seen these movies ,

Spectre:

8.5/10.

My personal list of Craig movies probably goes:

SkyFall
Casino Royale
Spectre
The Aborted mess that was Quantum of Solace.

The opening scene was absolutely on mark. Monica Bellucci, even in her 50s, is still a goddess and I most certainly would NOT pass up a chance for a roll in the sheets with her.

Waltz was underutilized in my opinion. A disappointment for the Blowfeld character if this is to be the last Bond movie. He wasn't quite... evil enough.

But I loved the train scene. My dad was quick to remind me it was a homage to "From Russia with Love."

Lea Seydoux was sizzling.

Andrew Scott was also underutilized. If anyone watched the BBC Sherlock, you'll recognize him as Moriarty. Scott can be downright villainous, creepy, over the top, intelligent, etc...

Spectre really missed the mark there not developing those villains enough.... more development there and this may have been one of the best Bond movies.

Actions sequences were fantastic as always.

Looking back, it seems like they tried to make Dave Baustisa a combination of Odd Job and Jaws.

Owen Wilson was really good in a serious role. Never thought he could pull it off, but he did.

I always thought he was great in Behind Enemy Lines.

The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2
The fiancee had been a little stressed lately so I decided to take her to see this opening night. I'll throw out a little disclaimer and say that although I've seen the previous movies in this series, I've never been able to get into it. This movie focused primarily on the attack of the capital, Katniss' relationship with Peeta and Gayle and what happens after it all.

This was just a glorified love story with a little "action" mixed in. I won't give any spoilers but the ending was cheesy as hell. The movie itself was very predictable and dragged out (personal opinion). There is no way in HELL that this movie deserves the 7.3 rating it currently has on IMDB. I felt the movie was literally made for teenage girls and feminists. Not to mention that the story itself is stupid and anyone with a functioning brain can think of tons of flaws in each side's strategy.

I give this movie a generous 5/10 and I'll share that rating with the series overall.

'Pride and Prejudice.' I've seen this movie before but watched it again the other night. I'm not usually into romance/chick flick types of movies but I love everything about this movie and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fine acting. 9 out of 10.

The Awakening 8.1 /10 In 1921, England is overwhelmed by the loss and grief of World War I. Hoax exposer Florence Cathcart visits a boarding school to explain sightings of a child ghost. Everything she believes unravels as the 'missing' begin to show themselves. (IMDB)
lots of suspense and good characters make this a rather enjoyable watch. the beginning is fun as you watch the main character debunk a seance. fun stuff. (Rebecca Hall / Dominic West)

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas 8.4/10 Set during World War II, a story seen through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, whose forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences. (IMDB) (Asa Butterfield / Vera Farmiga)
another good movie using a young boy's naivety as he is moved from all his friends in the city so his father can become commandant of Auschwitz. the boy believes its a farm and befriends a young jewish boy. makes for interesting dialogue between the two and just pounds home some more of the horrificness of concentration camps. if you dont like that subject, its not dwelled upon, its used as a basis for the storyline showing the innocence an unbiased feelings of children versus well trained sheep as the adults.

The Scapegoat 8.2 / 10 Set in 1952, as England prepares for the coronation, The Scapegoat tells the story of two very different men who have one thing in common - a face. (IMDB) Matthew Rhys
the plot involves two men running into each other in a bar and by morning they have "changed" places. the one man does it to get away from his situation, the other is completely surprised to find out who he is now, a man of authority and power involved in a bitter family business squabble that he has no knowledge of (obviously).
kind of a prince & the pauper meets Memento type of film. you get to learn about the situation as does Matthew Rhys' character is learning.

Creed 8/10.

Love the rocky movies and this one fits right in with the earlier ones. Docked a couple points for the love story and a really cheesy scene during the training.

No. I'll keep an eye open for it. Thanks.

No problem, hope you get to see it soon. It threw me off at first, the movie is English.

Side note apparently Hollywood is trying to do a remake of the 1st ...but the good thing is they keep running into problems with it. I can't imagine it being any good.

No, it wouldn't be a good idea at all for Hollywood to remake that movie.
