We were on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship that caught on fire coming into Jamaica this morning. It was insane. There were no casualties but some of the people in the engine rooms were taken off on stretchers. Flames were literally blowing out of the stacks about 20 ft in the air. The whole boat now smells like an electrical fire.

I was already having the trip from hell before this happened. Somehow I have developed a pinched nerve in my neck and it has caused me to have no feeling in my right thumb and pointer finger. It's also caused severe pain in my hand and 2 parts of my arm. The ship Doc actually sedated me all day yesterday. We couldn't fly out from Haiti yesterday so we had to arrange something out of JA today. We were lucky we scheduled this yesterday because everyone else on the boat is stuck.

Not sure what the boat is going to do... and we have friends still on board. Our flight leaves in about an hour. I'm sitting at the airport surrounded by my Brethren and I never got the chance to take in the local lifestyle.

I'll be heading out to several doctors when I get home. So much for R and R while on vacation.

OUR FUCKING SHIP WAS.ON FIRE! I still can't believe it.

Holy shit. Glad you are OK.

Cruises don't appeal to me. Sounds like hell with people you don't know that piss you off.

Wtf.
First locked up abroad, now your ship catches fire after getting sick.
Maybe you should kick it at home for a few years.

Not the pointer finger. At least both of your middle fingers are functioning. Sounds like that may come in handy.

What a bummer, glad you are OK. It's stories like your's that keeps me away from cruise ships.

Man! That's a crazy story.

I haven't had a vacation ruined before, but it's crossed my mind the many ways it could happen. Sickness. Injury. Death in the family. Etc.

Safe travels!

Personally, I'm not interested in cruises, either. While not exactly a germaphobe, the stories about sickness gives me the creeps.

it seems like every time the wife and I start talking about going on another cruise, something happens on one of the major cruise lines to make us say no. We'll stick with the high speed ferry to Long Island or Martha Vineyard, thanks anyway

My mother-in-law passed away at age 63, back in 1993, while on a cruise to Venezuela. Now my wife refuses to go on a cruise ship with me. Probably for the best.

Thanks guys. I got some relief / laughs reading your responses.

We're sitting in the Miami airport now... of course our flight crew is going to be an hour late. Haha... So the wife and I are chilling at Shula's waiting on them to show. I told her we need to eat there after what he said about the cheatriots.

Apparently the cruise is going to continue. I'm surprised,,, hopefully nothing else goes wrong. They aren't scheduled to return till Sunday.

Wait! George is in Jamaica and this is what is numb? Why am I not surprised? Sure that wasn't from repetitive motion? :sneaky:

All jokes aside, hope you feel better man and what a trip!!! I've been on 20 cruises and have been lucky enough for THAT not to have happened. A co-worker of mine had the same thing happen but he was stuck on the ship for a couple of days at sea with no power, plumbing, stabilizers, and all of it in a tropical storm. He hasn't been back on a cruise ship since.

Wife and I are going on a 25th anniversary cruise in Nov. (we'll have been married 26 by then, but real life schedules... What can you do?)

I'm not telling the dates or the ship because I don't want Selassie to jinx it! :p:p:LOL::LOL:

Hope you feel better, man. Pinched nerves stink on ice.

Well THAT's fucked up. Sorry to hear that George. Happy birthday to Cammy - eh?

One suggestion though - try that cupping shit I went through before my trip out your way. I need to go in again but it worked up until about a month ago. I had what the docs diagnosed as carpel tunnel and I also had a spot in my neck/back of shoulder that felt like someone was poking it with a burning spear to go along with numbness in my thumb and first two fingers (they liked to go to sleep at night too). Three treatments and it was all gone. I didn't even believe in that voodoo until then.

I'm going in a couple weeks to get attacked by octopi and stabbed with needles. This time I'm looking forward to it.

I'm not sure you could pay me enough to go on a cruise , seems like every other week you hear about some cruise were all the passengers all got food poisoning , or some drunk Captain runs the ship aground or.........................it catches on fire

Cruises just don't seem very safe.....................lol

Bummer about your neck , I know all about pinched nerves in the neck , I've dealt with the same thing off and on for years , funny how it always comes on at the worst time

Well, it's 1:30am and we just got home. I'm so tired and whacked that I probably won't be able to sleep right away.

Hopefully our friends will be fine on that fucking cruise ship. They'll be in Grand Cayman tomorrow and I've paid for a charter to take them out. They'll probably catch my blue marlin that has eluded me throughout my life. I really wouldn't be surprised.

I only went on this cruise cause it is what my wife wanted for her 40th. I'm thinking she will be done with them now.

Our friends are telling us that every time we leave the country we end up on the news... so we're probably going to need to avoid that too.

I feel like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz... there's no place like home!

Saw the footage on CBS This Morning... crazy stuff!

To your point @RhodyRams... I agree. Seems like something happens on a cruise ship once a month now... lost power... fires... crashes.

The only cruises I have gone on were Disney and that was many years ago. I don't think I'd go on another until I see a trend of no events happening... and I love cruises!

Glad everything is okay.

Yeah, I have tried talking my wife into a cruise many times but she won't have it.

When I see this kind of thing happen I think: Eh, maybe she's right.
