I don't think there's anything conspiratorial about it. I think that guy hit's it right on the dang head.

Moreover, with so many ex-Pats (heh) working for NFL Network or ESPN, it hasn't been hard for the narrative to shift from journalism back to "entertainment reporting".

I thought when Willie McGinest was interviewing Robert Kraft, I could hear the Entertainment Tonight theme song in the background.

Good thing none of these guys have any vested interests in this. And I'm almost angry at seeing all of these intrusive disclosures popping up on my screen like Emergency Broadcast System Test Alerts... We get it.... wait... no alerts? no disclosures? They just file their reports and don't tell anyone about their massive conflicts of interest?

I'm not sure they'll be able to prove anything.

Maybe they should just scrap the rule. Been around since 1940? Seems like a waste of time and resources to enforce it.

I agree, it's a rule that doesn't need to be on the books, inflate the balls to whatever the hell you want and play.

I'm a gym teacher, so we did this experiment, and the difference between a 13.5 PSI football and an 11.5 PSI football was pretty much unnoticeable. Catching, throwing it, holding it seemed close to the same. So what does it matter? I agree they should just scratch this rule

You, rams1991, are in the distinct minority. In test after test, conducted with people off of the street, the overwhelming majority could instantly tell the difference between one inflated to 13.5 PSI vs. one inflated to 11.5. I believe one such sampling had 391 able to correctly identify the balls vs. 46 who were unable to do so and 30-something who weren't sure.

Let me clarify: there WAS a difference. What I'm saying is that when we threw both balls around it didn't affect who could catch it and who couldn't. Who could throw it and who couldn't. From the NFL level, I'm saying I can't see much of an advantage. Rules are rules, however.

The main advantage is that the ball is easier to grasp while running and less bounce also makes it harder to strip or punch out of the grasp. There was an article on here that showed how few fumbles the Patriots had once he rule was in place for teams to bring their own balls. I believe it determined that the Patriots fumble rate was equivalent to hitting the lottery. In other words it was not realistic without cheating.

Every football fan knows that winning he turnover battle is key in winning.

Eh, I heard that article was more of an outlier because Belichick benches everyone that fumbles and puts the fear of god into his guys Denzel Washington "Remember the Titans" style.

You're not a pro(not an insult). It's pretty similar to pro golfers. Give a fitted set of clubs to an amateur and they won't be able to tell the difference. A pro virtually requires it along with a long list of other seemingly minor tweaks to their equipment. When you get to a certain level, the smallest things make all the difference. But even beyond that, going back to what @rams2050 said, people have tested it (you did use NFL regulation quality balls, didn't you?) and most said there was a pretty substantial difference.

It wasn't about catching it. It was about being able to hold onto it in adverse weather conditions. There was a HUGE difference there.

No, I'm not a pro. Never claimed to be. Either way, Brady looked awful in his interview with Bob Costas today. He has to be lying
