His drop issues predate his rookie year.
Being a rookie may have compounded the issue,
but it is not the root.
All players have deficiencies leaving college, entering the NFL. If he didn't have drop issues, he wouldn't have been available to the Rams. You draft him with intention of straightening out his flaws

Relax ? It's all good.

I'm going to keep making my predictions.
I also am trying to read into McVay's view point.

Rogers over Harkey-- it is easy to see The Rams needed an upgrade at the position. He is a Swiss Knife type player. Reminds me of some of the good 9er FB that have hurt The Rams in the past.

Hemingway has been mentioned a couple times & seems to me as a perfect project for McVay. He has a lot of raw talent.I think he could be good on special teams as well. Real good in drills practicing on the other side of the ball.

Mike Thomas imo makes the team because he has been good on special teams. Made 6 tackles & has to beat out Marquez. I will add that Spruce could be a surprise ? He has shown some ability in practice on special teams.

I think the numbers will be heavier at WR position. I think one less on the O'Line. A back up center on practice squad.

Aaron Green will probably get cut. Dunbar, Brown as backup HB's .

2 QB's. -- imo I think looking at what personnel Wade had on defense with Denver will be a tale tail.
I'm going to say Davis over Brown as the backup RB. Just a hunch.

The sad fact is, WR's that have a history of dropping balls through high school and college rarely change for the better when they reach the NFL. I sure hope Thomas can turn it around.
Julio Jones is an example of someone who was known to drop balls pretty consistently in college.
He has turned it around pretty well.
Let's hope Mike Thomas can do the same.

But as long as they do pick them up....I think Brian will be just fine...with a real nice offensive system.

I'm guessing you didn't see Mike's college tape? Very impressive. If he goes back to that, he'll do fine.

OH MY GAWWWWWD... I'm actually agreeing with CHAMP! :p <3

Mike Thomas if he does get inspired by this coaching staff and translates his College Tape to NFL Production... could be Legit. Very Legit.

He had some Odell Beckham type catches.

True.Drops however are a completely different animal all unto themselves.
if a person has not learned how to catch a ball consistently
by the time they reach the NFL,the odds of becoming consistent are very low.

This is not like learning how to run better routes or improving your blocking.
Catching a ball is something that is more akin to having a good arm.
You either can or you can't.I truly believe natural throwers and catchers are born
with a particular ingredients, which then, can be developed.
But usually if someone is inconsistent at this point in their development,
they will always be inconsistent.

Not saying he won't contribute at WR,but if he sticks I think he will be our new
Jared Cook,In that he will look all world one minute and have you throwing
beer cans at the TV the next.JMHO.

If drops were it for Cook, there wouldn't be that much frustration with him. The history of football is littered with good/great WRs who dropped a few too many passes.

Cook seemed to have impeccable timing for some of those drops.

WRs who dropped a few too many passes.

Littered may be a little strong, but I get your point.
There has to be a positive balance to the ratio.

If Mike Thomas has made any strides at all, will be nigh impossible to knock him off that 6th WR spot.

Kupp, Reynolds, Austin, Wood, Cooper, Thomas, that's the 6 we will use, if we only use 5 we may see Cooper go if Thomas really has made significant strides.

Spruce will hopefully be a PS candidate.

When you look at Mike Thomas's YouTube vid you would think he was a first round draft pick.

But when you read his scouting write-ups they mentioned that he drops balls.

He must be an either "hit or miss" feast or famine kind of guy.
All he really has to do is improve a little on the dropped ball problem and he's a keeper.

We have very few outside receivers and I actually think he's a pretty good route runner and he certainly has the speed.

If you want a better picture of him than the highlight reels
this is a good place to start.

He isn't a speed type, but gets it done.

PRO DAY RESULTS

40-yard dash: 4.55 seconds
Vertical: 33 1/2 inches

He must be an either "hit or miss" feast or famine kind of guy.
That's my take.He looks amazing at times and then famine strikes.
Hence the low draft pick.

I'd take Thomas over Cooper right now. But we shall see.
Thomas has to be the most over hyped 6th round pick
in Rams history. And has shown absolutely nothing as a WR since
drafted.I honestly can't understand the mothers love for this guy.

Cooper regardless of position is a McVay blue print
for receiver.smart, polished route runner with good hands.
I will gladly take anyone's ROD money who thinks Cooper
doesn't make the squad.
