I suspect that he’s identified quite a few players that he likes in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Players that can be solid contributors for the Rams.

Real good value, IOW. Consequently, I doubt that we’ll see dramatic trades up into the late 2nd, maybe not even into the higher 3rd.

I further suspect (maybe even expect) that Snead has plans for all 4 of his top picks and will resist temptations to trade up from them.

The 6th rounders are another story. They are bargaining chips that he might well use to get back into the 5th IF a player that he really likes has fallen. There are only so many roster spots that are even remotely open on this roster, anymore, so Snead may be wanting quality over quantity at this point.

But I’m just spitballin’ here, trying to get into the minds of S&M. Anything halfway reasonable in terms of doabilitiy is still on the table with these guys in this draft. Makes it more entertaining, huh?

This is a “different” Ram draft. The marquee names will be long gone before our first turn. But for those of us following this team closely it will be fascinating to observe the picks and moves as the Ram strategy unfolds. I, for one, will be keeping a close eye on this board during the Ram part of this draft as our draft experts do a deep dive into the Ram reasoning.

I think of we come away with 3 LBs, 2-3 Olinemen, a safety and a special teams star of the future I consider this a great draft.

This team is loaded outside of Rush LB, and addl linemen. The rest is gravy. Some believe we need a RB I don't I love Davis more than most.

I doubt we address it but the area I feel we nred is TE but let's see how they all grow this year.

Finding steals in later rounds is the surest way to offset salary cap woes period!! Ultimately superior drafting in later rounds is what separates the really well run teams from the "also rans." Injuries & cap issues are mitigated when the "next man up" is both talented and affordable. Snead, since relieved of the Fish, seems to have an affinity for finding talented players in later rounds. This year he'll really have a chance to shine .. or not. I betting on "shine"

Good post 43!

One exception, if there is someone Snead wants and he isn't confident that player will last until they pick in the 3rd he will go get that guy. I think that's where the later round bevy of picks would come into play. You 100% right that there are only so many spots left to fill and the ones the Rams need aren't drafted in the 6th.

If there is a good LB that is a system fit Snead may pull another rabbit out of his hat. I can see him using a couple of 6ths and a 4th to move into the 2nd round to get the right guy.

I think that his first two picks will be LB's one way or the other.

EDIT:

@MauiRam also a good post. I agree that he will shine.

I sort of think of it this way. We drafted Brandin Cooks, Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib.

Let's hoist that Lombardi this season!

I think this Rams draft comes down to priority needs: Linebackers and O-line depth.

I agree with Rams43"s speculation, but let's throw Wade Phillip's into the mix of things.

Wade will probably have significant input. He has a history of getting big production out of late round linebackers.

Offensive tackles are not considered an area of strength in this draft. I could see a trade up to take a shot at one of the higher ranked offensive tackles in this year's group, then some LBs with other picks for Wade to toy with.

May need to draft replacements for players that are aging....or in the last year of contracts that may not re-sign.....

I can't see them being found in the 6th round....I expect all of those to be used with 4th rounders to move up....this is a deep draft into the 3rd...and possibly early 4th.

I cant see a team trading a 2nd for a 4th and all of the Rams 6th rounders, much less a couple of them. Even multiple 4ths...
Would love to be wrong, but just don't think 6's have any value

Maybe a 5th in the mix too, I won't put it past Snead to unload everything other than his 3 and 4 to get something higher in the draft.

He's a wheeler dealer.

Les I don't think Snead has the draft capital to move up to the 2nd round with this years picks. I do agree that Snead and the Rams like targeting certain players. I could see small moves to get a player. It could be round 3 but, there should be a few they like available at 87. For some reason I think they might want to move up in round 4. They have to wait 24 picks for the 111 pick. Either way you never know with Snead until it happens.

Just for giggles, I took a look at a draft value chart:
https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp
It totals the Rams 3 4ths and 4 6's to a combined 212.3 points which basically works out to be Green Bay's 3rd rounder.
Ouch

Rams could throw in a player on their current roster as trade ammo to move up in the draft. Just thought I'd mention this possibility...

Snead can use the sixth round picks to move up in the fourth round, but that's about all they are good for.

Just a thought....but I’m going to keep an eye on a possible trade involving Tavon and a pick or two to move up.

Just a thought.....

Yes! As I been saying since they announced the Talib and Peters trades and reaffirmed with Cooks trade, we have identified good solid defensive starters/role players later in the draft that fit our system on D. Maybe even a few O players as well. Snead doesn't have his hands tied with average and over-arrogant Fisher anymore. We are going to make out this draft but I'm sure some of these picks won't show they are a diamond or ruby status until 2-3 years down the road.

Also another thing that helps us is a lot of solid OLB's/Edge guys and ILB's are to be found in abundance in a lot of drafts where we have our picks that work out as very good role players.

Rams draft picks & draft value points:
Round 3 pick 87 155 points
Round 4 pick 111 72 points
Round 4 pick 135 38 points
Round 4 pick 136 37.5 points
Round 6 pick 176 20.6 points
Round 6 pick 183 17.8 points
Round 6 pick 194 13.4 points
Round 6 pick 195 13 points
Which according to the draft value chart means if we packaged our 3rd and all 3 4th's we could trade as high as maybe #59 to the whiners. That's according to the chart and not including future picks or current players.
