Just found that a total of over $800 dollars has been withdrawn from my account somehow. 5 different withdrawals from 5 different locations in the past day and a half. My card has been in my pocket the whole time. Wtf?! I'm so pissed right now.

Sorry, just needed to vent. BofA is going to "investigate" and issue me a new card. Should refund the money in 24 hours, but what a pain in the ass. I feel wronged and wish I could catch the people responsible and dole out some vigilante justice.

Banks are usually pretty good about getting you your money back, my guess is someone was able to copy your card and has been withdrawing money. The magnetic strips that we use is really outdated and easy to crack... It's a shame our banks aren't in a hurry to move to chip and pin, we're the only ones still using the strip, really outdated.

Hopefully you get it all back though! When I had someone steal a few grand for me BoA gave it all back really easily, totally painless.

^^ I heard about this. Scary.

Yea, when I was in college I had a nice aftermarket stereo system in my truck. They smashed my windows and stole all my gear and rendered the vehicle un-driveable. I felt violated and wanted to exact furious vengeance upon the heathens. Ugly feeling.

Mine are too.

I should have mentioned that feature in the wallet thread the other day.
Yeah sometimes it takes a while to find the right card cuz they never go back in order , but ain't nobody gonna scan my cards in my pocket ,those magnets will screw that .
My clip is a Harley D ,kids get me new ones every time they wear out

That sucks. It's possible that somebody ripped your PAN somehow besides off of your card directly. Banks are really good about issuing new cards and taking responsibility in these matters. I'm confident (hope) that your issuer will step up for you. Hearing about some sort of security breach is commonplace these days unfortunately. The new physical technology is the EMV chip though. Mag stripes really are so 10 minutes ago. Physical security only goes so far though. Gangsters are working overtime.

Yea... I believe the rep said I should have the funds in question, plus the numerous overdraft fees, refunded by morning.
The thing I don't get is how the jerks were STILL able to pull money out even after the account had overdrawn?? Oh well, lesson learned. Hopefully this will be just a minor inconvenience and I'll be back at the nudey bar swiping my NEW card in no time. J/K

Last November, the day before I was heading off on holiday to Australia, I had a standing order for ÂŁ1,950 (over three thousand dollars) come out of my account. It had absolutely nothing to do with me. There was another ÂŁ1,950 due to come out a few days later as well. To say it was a pain in the arse to sort out was an understatement but I got it all back. Hope you get yours sorted.

People place scanners inside dicey ATM machines, grab your card details and pin-code, then create their own version of your card. Sounds like fairly smart criminals, as they are taking money out in relatively small chunks.

I believe I read somewhere that by 2016 the magnetic strip cards that we use here i the states will be obsolete. I think in Europe they have a 6 digit pin code also

had the same problem with my business debit card a few months back.

Took all of 2 days to get my $$$ back, but it took much longer to get a new card, almost 2 weeks

4 digit pin, or at least that's what mine and everyone I knew used.

Watch out whenever you use your card at places that are outside like gas stations and those standing atm machines that chill in stores or where ever. Like stranger said, they put a device that goes right over the place you put your card in and it steals the info. They can then make a whole new card with your info on it.

Sorry you're going through this. I've had things stolen from my house before and it leaves one feeling violated. Apparently there is technology now that allows scumbags to scan your credit card right through your pocket and wallet. I have a plastic sleeve that I put the credit card in to prevent this.
That's it. I'm switching to the barter system!!!!!

Congress needs to amend the Constitution to make destroying one's vehicle punishable by death. (I apologize for the politics)

Have to edit it to note that the 28th Amendment should only protect the vehicles of people that care about their vehicles.

thanks for the responses, gents. Order has been restored. They refunded all the money in question and I was able to pull out some cash at the bank this afternoon. Still have to wait til probably Friday for my new card, but other than that, it wasn't too terrible. Other than wanting to catch and maim the persons responsible. :shooting: But that too shall pass.

In the not-too-distant future, everyone's phone will double as a credit card. It already does for many.

That's too bad. The worst part is that these crimes really do pay. I work for a police department and one of our detectives told me that most of those bank don't even hardly cooperate with law enforcement or investigate this stuff on their own unless the theft was $10,000 or more. They just pay the consumer back and chalk it all up as a loss. Pretty crazy.
