Head Coach Jeff Fisher – News Conference – December 31, 2012

(Opening statements)
“As you concluded, we had our final wrap-up meeting probably about an hour and a half, two hours ago, and they’re never easy. This one, however, was a little different in that we really felt like when the guys left the auditorium, they left with a great deal of enthusiasm and optimism for what’s ahead. Certainly, a disappointing loss yesterday. Disappointed in that, but we talked more about the big picture and what we accomplished in the short period of time. I congratulated them on … we know that they’re the youngest team in the National Football League. We had the third-toughest schedule. We had the best record in the division amongst our division opponents. We let some slip away. We also won some that people didn’t think we probably had a chance to win. But, overall, our focus now goes on to continue to build this football team, making good decisions, moving forward as far as our unrestricted free agents, and then planning for the roster changes as we move through the offseason. I was especially proud of this team, the staff and how committed they were to working. Their enthusiasm day-to-day, week-to-week, Sunday-to-Sunday was unmatched. It was very, very impressive to see them focus in and do whatever they possibly could to try to win ball games. Not the kind of year we expected to have, but nonetheless, a lot of positives from this to be taken as we move forward.”

(On if the playoffs are a realistic goal for next year)
“Yeah. That was a goal for us this year. But, next year, yeah. We want to build this team so that every year, as we move forward in the future, that it’s a possibility.”

(On if rookies normally make their biggest improvement from year one to year two)
“Biggest improvement -- in our experience -- is that, yes, from year one to year two, you’re going to see significant improvement. As we’ve talked about numerous times, most of our classes had plenty of experience on Sunday. Obviously, the offseason program is going to be paramount as far as they’re concerned and OTAs and training camp and such. But, we would expect each one of them to improve.”
