Jeff Fisher's St. Louis Rams are currently two games out of a playoff spot, with games against the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals on deck.

The way it looks now, Fisher will be 0-for-4 in attempts to reach the postseason as coach of the Rams. Including his last two years with the Titans, that would be six straight seasons for him as a coach without a trip to the playoffs.

And before anyone gives Fisher an out by saying he hasn't had a decent quarterback, sources said he was the one who pushed the Nick Foles trade to completion back in the spring. When he got back from a competition-committee meeting and learned the trade has stalled, he leaned on his staff to get it done.

Fisher has one year left on his contract. The future of the Rams' franchise is obviously uncertain -- as his tenure with the team should be.

Win 9 games this year or be fired. That's what should happen if he doesn't. But I doubt he gets fired even if they finish 4-12.

It's time to go in another direction because I just don't see this team winning any games the rest of the year and that includes against the 49ers and for the first time in my life I was envious that they have Blaine Gabbert, but that's how bad it's gotten.

I'm not going to be so hard on Fish for that. We were in a tough spot. Sam was very injury prone to the tune of really screwing us up for two seasons in a row. And he was completely unwilling to re-do his contract. If we had him here this year, we would all be on pins and needles every single time he dropped back to pass, worried about him being injured again. And of course, what happened to him last week? He got hurt and couldn't play yesterday. Foles at the time seemed like a reasonable alternative.

If you're going to go after him, go after the inability to get the offensive line fixed. We only signed one vet in the offseason, we should have signed at least one more. It would have been real nice if we could have picked up a veteran starting center. His OC hires have been questionable, Schotty wasn't very good, and Cigs is not getting it done either. Neither of them are very good playcallers. Irrespective of who is QB, we are not attacking the middle of the field and are thus taking a lot of pressure off opposing D's. In general, the buck stops with him and the problems with the offense - which are crippling this team now - are at his feet.

I won't take him to task for trying to do something about an untenable QB situation that he had going into last offseason. But despite that, the failure to fix the offense is on him.

What does the author base this on? There has been no indication from anywhere within the Rams organization that Fisher's performance will not be tolerated. The headline would be more accurate if it read "Fisher should be coaching for his job"

How long has Kronke let his other pro teams go with losing records before a coaching change was made.

His problem is..... he's a DC masquerading as a HC who likes to put his hands in all the cookies jars and make recipes from scratch that taste like shit (shitty cookies being the offense in this case).

We need either a young up and coming guy with offensive know-how or just an offensive mind in general. Even at 9-7 I'd still fire him for this total clusterfuck of an offense. No one is left from the old regime on offense except Lance Kendricks. These are all his guys....

And we are a worse team than the one he inherited from Spags.

That's an impressive display of awful.

Not really. Possibly worse on offense with better offensive pieces sans Bradford. Still the same horrendously mind-numbing in game decisions.

Same tired spiel, but instead of four pillars, it's "we'll fix that."

Hmmmm...we'll see...Like the post above, I don't see any problems as long as there are years left on the contract. At this time, he's signed until 2016.

I gotta say, to his credit he tried to get some different guys in here to look at the offense. The Colts blocked us from interviewing Chud and Gase went with John Fox to Chicago. He brought in two outside people to help with Foles in the offseason in Garcia and Weinke. I thought that was pretty huge.

Beyond that, I can't make too many excuses for the guy. Bolstering the line should have been a focus after Bradford got hurt in 2013. And yes, they should have recognized that veteran help would be key going into this season. Why they didn't pursue Mathis is a mystery to me.

The talent is here, I do believe that a lot of these young guys on the line will be solid starters going into next year. Austin and Gurley make a pretty solid combo on offense. We need a legitimate threat at receiver and the QB position is broken. Unless Mannion proves himself to be the pick of the draft.

But yeah, if this team goes sub .500, he should go. I said it going into the season and I stand by it now. If he can turn the squad around and reel of 5 wins to finish the year, he deserves to stay. That would be a hell of an accomplishment.

Coaches with bad qbs usually lose their jobs.

He took the job, in part, because he liked Sam Bradford. He traded Bradford for Foles and then extended Foles because he liked Nick Foles. He traded for Case Keenum because he liked him.

If the Rams don't have a QB, who's that on exactly?

Fisher hired Schottenheimer and Cignetti, both of whom have a history of not getting results from the QB position.

Poor Jeff Fisher.

He knows how to put a good NFL defense on the field. But when it comes to offense, he doesn't.

Not sure how you figure that.

Fisher won 20 games in his first 3 seasons. Spags won 10.

That makes Fisher twice as good as Spags and Fisher's not good...

This is how I see it.

He should be on the hot seat, but other factors have come into play.

The only way that Fisher loses a job is if 24 owners choose the Chargers in the great LA sweepstakes.

Otherwise he's shopping for beach chairs.

Not sure I'd go that far... but the past two games were certainly worthy of comparison.

Actually, I think I heard on the radio that this offense is performing worse than what he inherited... so there may be some element to truth to your statement.

Meh. The only real difference imo is Snead > Devaney as being able to ID talent. Fisher is an awful HC just like Spags. Spags gifted Fisher with Quinn. And as you can see, our D is nowhere near good enough without Quinn.

Bad his first year (no talent left) then brings it up to 7-9 and is a few DX drops from 8-8 and a playoff birth. Then it was downhill. Just like Fisher. Strong 1st season, then downhill again. I mean... we had a Bulgerized Bulger and Boller, and Null at QB.

Fisher has had better QBs (as sad as that fucking is) and isn't really doing much better.

We're almost dead last in pts/game. AGAIN!

If we wanted that we coulda kept Spags. He had us at the bottom as well except for Sam's 2nd year and hell, we had to start Feeley and Clemmons for at least a third of those games.

Fisher also inherited Long (Devaney signed him) and Laurinaitis.

Great head start? No... but more than Spags inherited from Linehan.
