Didn’t they change the format of the yearly SS issue?

I believe that issue accounts for an enormous amount of yearly sales, new subscriptions and advertising revenue.

It's been dead for a while but this may be the final nail in the coffin. Don't remember the last time I read a print copy and didn't even know they had an online version until this came out tbh.

They did not move into the digital world well at all - and print media is either dying or is already dead.

I think the last one I bought was with Kurt Warner on the cover, “ Who is this Guy “.

Their content was dead well before AIs came around. Been living on their old successes for a while now.

Good riddance and RIP. Better this way.

Paul "Dr. Z" Zimmerman's article on the Rams valiant effort in Super Bowl XIV (in the issue with the iconic photo of Rod Perry and John Stallworth) is etched in my sports memory bank. Alas, that was a long time ago... and I have not read an SI in a very long time.

Nothing lasts forever.

My favorite part of SI was the "faces in the crowd" section at the end of the magazine.
Was always amazed to see what feats were being accomplished, most of the time by athletes you'd never hear of again.

sad to think that back *in the day* sports illustrious was a go to publication for in depth sports reporting. certainly nowhere near the level of the Sporting News. that paper was like a biblical tome for all things sports in the 70's / 80's. ...... until sports center kicked in (dan patrick and keith olbermann were great until politics overtook their repective careers).

only reason people had subs for SI is so they could get the "swimsuit issue". yay! good marketing ploy that has run its course.

It must have. They got entirely insane with the trash swimsuit issues of late.

You mean it wasnt the free alarm clock or "SI" fleece sweatshirt?
What was comical though was every year after the swim suit issue was available you'd hear of many subscribers cancelling their subscriptions because of it
