Is he still a prima donna?
Never has been, he's another sports star just like the hundreds of others in every sport. When he busted out he was a 22 year old kid after a couple of years trying to escape Cuba. All of a sudden he's in the spot light in LA doing what he does best and he was having a great time. But he's no more a prima dona than anybody else in the game.

Well do a search and Puig and prima donna turn up in quite a few articles. Perhaps he's grown up.

I'm aware of the articles. An out of market writer doing an article about his opinion of a player don't change the facts. Take this for example he's had an issue/confrontation with only one pitcher, Madison Bumgarner. How many hitters has that puke had an issue with? I'll give you a few days to total them up. Puig was young and excitable and caught up in his own hype his rookie year. He's actually a very good guy.

Well this is from the LA Times- "Yasiel Puig, your reputation now precedes you, and that's trouble"

I do remember when he came up he did give the impression of being caught up in his own hype. How do you think that plays in the clubhouse as a rookie? What about now? Probably won't get the full story as long as he is in the starting lineup if not on the team. There were rumblings about Pujols as a Cardinal but nothing specific until after he left. Pujols was entitled as he got a pass on various things. But Puig isn't Pujols, not even close. Any rumbling that is the case with Puig?

Problems when he came up were two fold. One was Mattingly he really had no idea how to work with the young kid. In spite of being a great player and a good manager he was horrible at managing the club house(that doesn't even mention how ineffective McGuire was as his hitting coach). Two the only real leader at the time who was willing Adrian Gonzalez. Now we've added Turner, Utley, Kendricks in his time here, along with Grandal. They've had a good influence on the clubhouse especially Utley and Turner. Plus he has a hitting coach in Turner Ward who has done wonders with not only Yasiel but the team as a whole. Dave Roberts has done a great job with our young guys. Also he hasn't gotten married yet but he and his lady just had their second baby. Yasiel is listening and changing, the only thing he isn't getting rid of and I love it is the bat flip.

Interesting. This is not directed at Puig or anyone else......I really miss the days when showboating would get you a fastball in your ribs your next at bat.

Now most every hitter and pitcher does it in some form. It's in every sport too. And if you retaliate your the bad guy.

I've always loved baseball. I get the DTV Extra Innings package and NFL ticket every year. The price I pay for not being a local fan. Yanks and Rams. Rams and Yanks. 99 was a great year for me. 2001 not so much. But what else is a guy supposed to do after the NFL draft? Watch baseball.

I did spring for AA Trenton Thunder tickets this year. Got 4 seats for 7 games, free parking and food vouchers. Should be a good time. And then there's always a trip or two to the Bronx.

Yeah, those days are gone. Or at least the regularity of it. Of course now you know when a guy gets thrown at, he's been using a lot of mustard. No more breaking up double plays, running over the catcher or self policing. Eventually we'll have flag football and home run derby as the normal sports.

You don't have the YES Network on that side of the river?

showboating should never get you a fastball to the ribs causing a broken rib. words do not equal potential injury. Plus I'm still upset about the pitch to ribs and hands from the Cards against Hanley especially when he was hitting so well. I do agree that there shouldn't be a ton of showboating, but it also does kinda make the sport a bit more colorful and fun.

I disagree. Showboating isn't words. Showboating is acting out in a disrespectful manner towards one opponent. IMO showboating doesn't add anything to the game. In fact IMO it takes away from the game. Act like you've been there before......its the major league.....you did your job.....everyone knows it.....no need to showboat.

I don't know the pitch to Hanley to which you refer but if it was in response to showboating so be it. If the pitch was payback for a teammate having been hit by a pitch so be it. If the pitch got away from the pitcher it happens. The game is baseball not croquet.

the pitch was never in response, in fact i believe it was done to either get Hanley to stop hitting well (scare him and maybe the pitch got away) but it happened twice in 2 different series. Secondly, even if it is disrespect, it does not equate to actual physical injury towards another player. That would be like if a pitcher disrespect the batter, then the batter should be able to take a swing at the pitcher with his bat.

Well then it seems to me the Cardinals book on Hanley is to pitch him inside or back him off the plate. Both are legal. Good hitters have to adjust.
