I was perusing PFF and I stumbled upon some interesting stats for Austin Davis. I thought I'd share them with you. Obviously, it's only been 1.5 games for him and the 1 game was against a very vulnerable TB defense so I wouldn't buy too much into them but I do think they're interesting. They definitely lend credence to the theory that we should start Austin Davis against Dallas.

PFF QB Rating - 100.51(#3 in the NFL behind Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson)
% of Yards in Air - 71.7%(#1 in the NFL)
Yards Per Attempt - 8.21(#3 in the NFL behind Andy Dalton and Peyton Manning)
Accuracy% - 80.0%(#3 in the NFL behind Philip Rivers and Russell Wilson)
Deep Passing Accuracy% - 85.7%(#1 in the NFL; 25.7% ahead of 2nd place)
Pressure% - 39.7%(6th most in the NFL)
Completion% Under Pressure - 52.9%(10th best in the NFL)

Percentage of Yards in Air bothers me because that means our WRs aren't picking up YAC.

However, I thought his high rankings in these stats is surprising and interesting. Like I said, only 1.5 games so it's not anything to fawn over yet but I think he's earned another start this weekend.

There will be some bogus excuse why Hill can't start, don't you worry none about that.

But if Davis shits the bed just watch how fast Hill "recovers" in time to step in and the cover up will continue in to another post game.

Of course if Davis plays well again, going in to the bye, it will make it impossible for Fisher to keep dancing the Texas two step there after.

He didn't appear to buckle under pressure. I actually saw him step up into the pocket for some throws. And he scrambled outside the pocket and made some good decisions as well.

That Dallas D is still super mediocre. Super mediocre. If our O-line gets its shit together and plays to what their talent dictates, Davis should have some good opportunities to burn the Cowgirls deep with Quick and Britt.

Marshall Faulk likes him and so do I, let him start and get some experience. His athleticism means he can extend plays at times and appears to throws well on the run. Opening up another dimension to the Rams offense can only help.

Go Rams!

Marc Bulger part 2 without taking all of the hits I hope! I say Bulger in terms of him being #3 on the depth chart. Can you guys imagine the future if he does well throughout the season? Do we draft a QB in the first or second rounds? 16 games would be a pretty good sample size.

He played amazingly well. He's earned another start, at least in my book.

I think that combining "% 0f yards in the air" with "yards per attempt" says he is pushing the ball downfield.

I agree with you that he deserves another start.

I was very excited for his play, and the game plan for him, but did anybody notice that the plays were designed to get players open, and he essentially rarely went through ANY progressions? Not hating, and give props to Shotty, and Davis for playing under composure, but better than Hill??? Davis did a good job of getting us in and out of plays at the LOS, but I was a little concerned at the 1 option throws.

I'm down with designing plays to get players open. ;)

Am I concerned with Davis at QB? Of course but our options are all pretty concerning right now. Hopefully, with more experience, we'll open things up a bit more. I think he showed a lot of progress from Week 1 to Week 2. Hopefully, he keeps it up!

I don't want to get ahead of myself. I am just hoping for Ryan Fitzpatrick haha. But if he were to play well for the remaining 14 games, I think we'd pass on a QB and bring Sam back. Just my guess, though. And I guess it depends how we define "well".(by well, I mean above average football relative to starters)

He simply needs to bring down that ball a little sometime. I don't think he's purposely letting them sail high. needs work on some throwing mechanics

He did, and I am too, but it appears that a lot of people are missing something. He wasn't going to his 2nd or 3rd option and making great plays. He just wasn't.

If he keeps those numbers up against Dallas, no way we sit him for Hill anytime soon.

He had a great game but there is one stat that nobody is mentioning. I think he has earned one more shot at QB but he needs to prove that he can score touchdowns before he can be factored in as a solution.

I thought the Rams put together a good game plan to fit Davis' skills. I suggested before the game that bootlegs and play-action would help him, and it did. Something I'd like to see Davis do more of if throw outside the numbers. If he can do that and do it effectively you might see him hold off Fishers preference for Hill. However, if not that might be the reason Fisher wants to go to Hill...because of his veteran knowledge and experience with using more of the field.

I really wasn't a fan of his all of preseason, and especially after having seen him up close in Miami. Man did he look bad to me. But what I'm noticing about him is that he heats up when the heat is on. I've never bought into the idea that QBs can elevate those around him, but I am a firm believer that a QB can elevate his own play when it counts. He's changed my mind a bit, and I'd like to see an offense designed around him going after defenses early. Get him into a groove, or even put him in a crisis situation. Either way, it appears to me that he thrives in environments that aren't so structured.

I love a guy who can take a punch in the face and look back and not be intimidated. Austin Davis seems to be able to realize his situation and to be ready to do this by trial by fire and not be scared at all by it. That's very Favre like IMO, and I'm sure he has used Favre as a tutor as far as watching and learning is concerned coming from the same college and breaking his records.
