based on everything I have seen from Williams in camp, and this particular aspect of his defense, he stresses more than just about anything else in his defense. Closing down on the dump off safety valve pass. Its almost like that is the ONE thing he wants to force teams into doing. Whether it be from the LBs or safeties, he is all over these guys for their reaction. They seem to funnel everything to the flat and just crash down on the receiver as soon as they catch the ball.

So I caution people, if you think they are giving up a lot of completions on these type of plays, it appears it is by design. Allow the reception, control the yards gained.

That's awesome. I have no problem with that at all.

They have the speed to do that.......so if that's part of the plan I'm comfortable that it'll work.

I know we've all had a ridiculous turmoil of emotions over the past week, but is anyone else out there really excited about the season this year - it's almost like the pressure to get to the playoffs has been lifted now, and I'm just really excited to see what this team can do.

I think what I'm trying to say is that I'm not waiting too see what Bradford can do - I'm more focussed now to see what the "team" can do. Towards the end of last season I saw some of the greatest football we've played for years (Colts & Bears games were formidable 'team' games) and they were without Sam under centre. The same thing used to happen when I used to play rugby, if our OH (our star player) was out, everyone else seemed to raise their game, and not rely on that position.

I have faith in Shaun Hill - even thinking of getting a Hill jersey to replace my Eric Dickerson vintage one for game days.

Lets just sit back, open a beer and enjoy some good football guys!
This time of year always brings out the optimist in everyone including myself usually. This time I have ZERO optimism for the rams chances this season. This is not because Bradford went down as I was LESS optimistic with our chances if he had not gone down. I just do not see the rams team as good on both sides of the ball as others do. On defense I think we are going to get run on a lot and then the play action is going to kill us as it usually does exposing our secondary to big gains.

I am usually excited for the beginning of the year but I have to be honest this time around and understand that the rams are just not that good and will only let me down as they usually have. I hate to be the negative nellie but I cant take the highs and lows anymore. I will just expect them to suck as usual and then if they do better then I am happy. If they suck I am not surprised and just move on and hope for the best next season.

The timing of the injury was terrible.

At least last year they and the fans had to get over it quick because they had a Monday night game the next week to get rready for.

No time to dwell and think on what might have been.

I am still excited for the season. The big positive is that this team has the talent and coaching to win some games this year.

What do you mean the pressure has been lifted? It may have been for you Shaun but I feel that pressure every day. At least I think it's that pressure. Hey Les - what pressure am I feeling?

Anyway, I was really looking forward to seeing what Bradford could do this season but.... moving on. We still have a very young team with a growing amount of talent. This team is going to be fun to watch and I still fully expect playoffs.

That seems VERY familiar to what the Rams did last year. Allow the short receptions so they don't give up the big plays.

I hope it's not like last year.

Damage limitation, I'd rather give up a couple of yards at a time and force a turnover or punt return when the opposition offense tires

Ok maybe pressure is the wrong term - the expectation that the Rams should make the playoffs - we're now the serious underdog, and I know we can take teams by surprise - I'm gutted to not see us BBQ (that'll be Bradford, Britt and Quick) the opposition this year, but you know, it's all about the team, not just Sam, the team IS young and we are developing into a good team

Yeah but with Walton, the short receptions he was allowing were 8-9 yard passes. Haha. I doubt we see guys so far off their man when the regular season starts.

I'm good and ready for the season. As long as we suffer no more major injuries, I think this Offense will go pretty close to what it would have had Sam not gone down. A little luck (injuries) and we play our asses off, nothing is out of reach.

I hope you're right. So far, they've been playing pretty much exactly like last year(10 yards off).
