It's painful.

Bad choice by Hill.

Bad position he was put into.

Never should have happened.

Pretty unbelievable of all the options available they go with a 4 yard pass right into the teeth of the D. If I were going to gamble with a pass it would have been a fade to Cook or Britt. Anything else would have been a run. But why would anyone dial up a pass of any kind with a full minute still on the clock?

Or even, instead of throwing it away, throw it to Cunningham who is wide open...

I live for the day the Rams have a Quarterback that can run a Quarterback draw!

At the time Hill decides to throw, Cunningham is still covered. He doesn't appear to be open until "after" Hill has thrown the ball.

To me, it isn't as much about Hill's choice to throw it to Britt it's that he stared him down. Looked like a total rookie. From the snap of the ball until he threw it, Hill was focused on Britt so it doesn't really matter what Cunningham or Cook or anyone else was doing on the play because Hill had tunnel vision and it made for an easy pick by the defender.

Exactly right. Britt May as well have been the only WR on the field because he didn't even glance away for another read. NFL defenses will make short work of that in the red zone with such a small field to cover.

Look at that running lane open to the left. If he can scramble to that spot, the defender releases from Benny. Woulda, coulda, shoulda!

there was nothing wrong with the playcall imo. If it's not there, you throw it away and go to OT. Hill was greedy and got caught slippin'

Exactly. I won't defend Hill's decision, it was terrible. A vet is not supposed to make those kind of decisions, which is why he was brought back in to replace Austin Davis.

But he should not have been in a position to make that decision, not on second down with a timeout left.

Agreed, 1000x. I wanted them to go for the kill, outcome sucked but I think it was worth the risk, this team can best any team.

proving how much this teams needs a top tier QB to be successful. i still thought it might be better to run down the clock, however, as the chargers would have had 55 seconds and 2 timeouts left to try and win the game themselves. oh well. another long winter of what ifs and what cans.

was thinking along the same lines with the clock situation. Run the ball, if unsuccesful make SD burn a TO.

I thought they should have kept it on the ground. 1st and 6 with Mason and Stacy? That gives you a decent chance to score while keeping the field goal alive. I get that they wanted to go for the kill, but you do that with teams that know how to win. Not with a team that struggling to be consistent with a career backup QB and an erratic OC.

They still had 3rd, and even 4th down to go for the kill. No need to do so on second down, in my opinion.

Before the play even happened Schottenheimer failed the Rams in his duties as offensive coordinator. 1) No threat of run with Cunningham split out as a wide receiver. 2) How is Chris Givens in the game and not Bailey? Bailey has proven he can make plays and has excellent hands. He should be on the field at this moment of the game. It is inexcusable that our OC has still failed to realize this. 3) Why the hell is Cunningham split out? Either put in a wide receiver or put in a different running back. Benny is not a good receiver of the ball. 4) Why the hell is Tavon Austin not in the game? 5) Why is Harkey lined up as a full back?

I do not agree that it was a mistake to throw it. I just cannot see any logic in the personnel on the field. I am an at an utter lost for words trying to describe his thought process in having that package of players on the field. The Jets fans were happy to get rid of him and for good reason. Brian Schottenheimer is a complete and utter retard. There is no excuse for him. I really hope Fisher gets the balls and hires a new OC.

There is something wrong with the play-call. Multiple things. Here's the problem with the play-call:
1. Schotty motioned Cunningham out of the back-field...Chargers are expecting run, use a play-action or at least make them respect your ability to run by having Cunningham back there
2. Schotty ran two of our three WRs over the middle on the play...most dangerous area in the red-zone...should have isolated Bailey or Britt on Shareece Wright who had been beaten all day and thrown a fade...that's a low risk play
3. The Rams didn't run the ball when the Chargers were going to have to use timeouts inside the 5

Hill clearly made an unbelievably dumb decision to not throw it away but Schotty's play-call was not a good one. He tried to get fancy and out-smarted himself.

Frankly, I don't know what the hell Hill was thinking. We've run that play many times and the point of that play isn't to throw to Britt. Britt is a decoy. Bradford has run it and the point of the play is for Cunningham to draw coverage with motion and slip Givens(used to be Pettis) into the back of the end-zone with no coverage. If they do cover Givens, it usually leaves Cunningham isolated on a LB and you let him work back inside on the pivot route.

The crossing route is not the route you should be looking at. It's simply there to hold the attention of multiple defenders so the WR in the back of the end-zone is freed up.
